Some fragrances whisper politely from the background. Gucci Intense Oud has absolutely no interest in doing that.
This is dark, smoky, woody and properly luxurious. Oud is obviously doing a lot of the heavy lifting, but what makes Intense Oud interesting is everything happening around it. There's incense, leather, amber and woods creating this deep, almost mysterious atmosphere, with raspberry adding just enough sweetness to stop the whole thing disappearing into a cloud of smoke.
The opening means business. You get that smoky incense almost immediately, alongside dry woods and a slightly fruity sweetness underneath. Then the oud and leather begin to take over and everything becomes richer, darker and smoother.
And this is another fragrance where the dry-down matters. Give it a couple of hours and the initial smoke settles, the oud becomes smoother and that amber warmth starts pulling everything together. It's considerably more nuanced than simply "here comes the oud".
