There's something rather fitting about a fragrance created exclusively for Harrods smelling like you've made considerably better financial decisions than everyone else.
Creed Millésime 1849 is elegant, polished and unmistakably grown-up. But don't mistake that for boring. It opens with a proper burst of citrus – lemon, grapefruit and bergamot – giving it a bright, almost sparkling freshness before the more sophisticated side starts making itself known.
Then come the florals. Iris, jasmine, rose and ylang-ylang soften that citrus opening and give the fragrance a beautifully refined middle. It's floral without becoming overly flowery, and there's a slightly old-school elegance to it that feels completely deliberate. This isn't trying to smell like whatever happens to be trending on social media this week.
As it settles, cedar and incense bring in the woods and smoke, with thyme and laurel adding an aromatic edge. That's where I think Millésime 1849 becomes particularly interesting. The bright citrus you started with hasn't simply disappeared – it's evolved into something warmer, deeper and considerably more distinguished.
